What’s a fiend?

You would not be alone if you wondered about the origin of the use of fiends for my dear IM community. Far from having a deep, psychological meaning it actually started off as a typo to my coach. Dear Friend became Dear Fiend. It made me laugh so much I decided to adopt it for my own website. And thus, friendly fiends were born. Go out and create much chaos, my fiends!

Why start a community?

Ahem, I have been the odd woman out for quite awhile in my life—a complete and utter mystery to be sure—and so I thought to myself if I can’t take the weird out of Ce Jaye then why not make a spot where the weird can gather around the Ce Jaye.

As a queer HSP and INFP, finding community can be particularly hard and frustrating. My hope is that Intuitive Menagerie will make my glorious quest of writing hilarious stories and sharing them with even more hilarious people easier to manage.

Cyclical Stories

What the fuck is a cyclical story?

Cyclical stories use the same cast of characters but change the narrative setting. For example a character might be a king in one story but a mercenary captain in another. It’s similar to when a fan takes a character from a favorite show and writes their own scenes or ending. Except this way it’s the author writing different scenes with their own character. Comic books occasionally do this by ‘resetting’ the timeline and creating a clean slate for a new writer/series to begin.

Why write cyclical stories? What’s the appeal?

Well, to me, the appeal is I can write endless stories involving my favorite characters! As an INFP, I’ll always have more story ideas than I have energy and time to write so I never have to worry about running out of ideas.

I also find the subtle shift of a character’s personality and preferences based on changes in the narrative incredibly fascinating. If I give a character different relationships how will she change? What if she lives in a different country? Suddenly has magic?! The possibilities are as endless as my fascination with the study of our human psychology.

Editing

Wait, you write and edit?

Yes, dearest fiend. I am an incredibly, multi-talented being of immense talent!

More seriously, they both use very different parts of the brain. My intuitive, creative side wants to wander in circles and explore different paths. My logical, factual side is where the editing comes in. I like to think of it as exercising both parts of my brain. No skipping leg day! Not even for my brain.

What’s a writer without a blog? A fraud that’s what!

Just kidding. I just have a lot I want to say and I’m too scared to start a podcast. One step at a time, my fiends! Or should that be one skill at a time?

What do you write about?

An inspired question! So glad you asked!

I write about my interests, hobbies, and funny things I encounter. That can run quite a gambit, and I’m sure when I have enough I’ll start organizing them into categories.

Hold on to your cat ears, fiends, it’s going to be a wild ride!
